Summer Sangria
I love summer sangria - it's all about fresh fruit and white wine. Yep, a little fruit punch with a kick. Most of the recipes I find have lots of added sugar, I'd much prefer to save my calories for peach pie with ice cream...hmm that sounds yummy! In addition to the summer sangria my daughter-in-law, Kat, made for us, I've gathered a few "low cal" versions of summer sangria - we'll try them all before the warm weather disappears.
First up is Kat's Summer Sangria......
Kat's Summer Sangria
Ingredients
1- 750ml bottle of dry white wine- we used Yellow Tail Chardonnay
1/2 C Brandy 1 1/2 C diced peaches
1 1/2 C diced mango - we used frozen because it was a last minute decision
1 C Splenda
a handful of chopped mint, extra for garnish
club soda is optional
Method
Mix all ingredients (except club soda) in a large pitcher and refrigerate for several hours. Pour sangria over ice and garnish with mint sprig. For a spritzer, add some club soda to the individual glass before serving.
Lululemon's Skinny Tea Sangria
Ingredients
5 tsp loose-leaf green tea (we used pomegranate/lavender green tea from Bulk Barn; get creative with yours!)
4 cups boiling water
1- 750ml bottle of dry white wine (we used a Pinot Grigio)
3 cups assorted melon, cubed (we used watermelon, cantaloupe and honeydew)
Method
Steep tea leaves in boiling water for 1 minute. Do not oversteep. Thoroughly strain tea leaves (otherwise, your sangria will taste bitter and tannic). Once the tea is cooled entirely, add wine and fruit. Refrigerate for at least four hours (preferably overnight). The melon in the recipe naturally sweetens the sangria. If you prefer a sweeter drink, try a sweeter wine like a Riesling or add watermelon juice.
